Class History

There are important things learned by the people in studying history. History, as defined, is the record of past events, usually with an interpretation of their cause and assessment of their importance. One of those important things is to reminisce the others batches that had already gone before us, our moment of joy and sorrow.

As we look back, almost four years ago in June 9, 1997 to be exact, it was the first time to step in the portals of this institution. We were divided into four sections, the Molave, Narra, Yakal, and Taguile, which were handled by Mrs. Evelyn C. Fabros, Mrs. Nilda D. Parujinog, Ms. Zarina Aludia B. Dacua, and Mrs. Rosalinda N. Balala, respectively. As freshmen, of course, we were all behave and hesitant to somebody at first, but later on we already tried to mingled with those new to us. In this year, we already showed our talents and abilities not only in our academic subjects but also in the field of singing and dancing. Actually we gained praises and appreciation not only from our fellow students but also from our teacher during convocation.

It was in this year when the celebration of S.I. Golden Anniversary was highlighted. We joined several musical and literary contest and also in ball games. Being neophytes, we didn't garner the first place instead we were at the bottom, but at least we showed and did our best. The municipality of Lebak also celebrated its 50th Foundation Anniversary and of course S.I. participated in the said celebration. With regards to our subjects some found it strenuous but some just have taken easy.

In the following year, we were sectioned into three, the Ipil under the supervisory of Mrs. Agnes B. Asentista, Dungon was given to Mrs. Leonida N. Lutria, and Mrs. Nilda Parujinog took Tindalo. Salaman Institute hosted a triangular meet in which all athletes from three districts met and competed for the championship. And proud to say that one of those batches came from our batch. The 51st Foundation Anniversary was also celebrated in this year. At this moment however we made only little adjustments unlike during our first year that we needed full adjustment. We found it also easier from us to deal with our subjects.

Today is not the end of your education for you, but the beginning of another stage, different from your experiences during the four years of secondary schooling. However, I am confident that you have been equipped by your mentors, parents and guardians with proper and appropriate knowledge and skills to meet the challenges and obstacles of whatever you decide to pursue.

To our honored guest, Chairman of the Board and his member, to our Principal, PTA officers, Teachers, Parents, Visitors, students, my fellow graduates, ladies and gentlemen, good afternoon.

As I stood before you this afternoon, I feel extremely proud of being the first among the graduates this school year. I am deeply grateful to God, to my parents, to my Alma Mater, particularly to my teachers, who patiently and meticulously molded my mind and shaped my personality into a well rounded one.

In spite of this feeling of happiness yet I have still the feeling of sadness because I remembered my deceased mother. Her words still printed in my mind, "Mar/on magpakabait ka kahit ako'y wala na." As I stood in front of you, I really remember my very sad moment of my life and that was the death of my beloved mother. If she is only alive, I'm sure she is the happiest mother by this time witnessing this very memorable day and my happiness will also be complete and can't be expressed. I was orphaned since April 12, 1994. I grew without experiencing the tender love and care of a real mother as what others are experiencing up to this time. I felt so depressed. How can I live without my mother? My father is also far away. We seldom see each other because of the call of duty. But in spite of those things, I tried to make good and become good through the help of my aunts and uncles, grandparents, and others who are concerned of my future until I finished my elementary grade.

When I entered high school life, as I look at the past, I can see the four years of struggle-the downs and ups, the tears and joys which make studying challenging and fulfilling. Sometimes, there were trials in my studies since it is my main objective and our beloved parents as well. They want us to be successful ones. Now, my dear fellow graduates try your very best, have interest, courage, and strong determination in life in order to attain the goals of success.

I reiterate our thanks and gratitude to our dear parents who helped and supported us at all times, morally, spiritually, emotionally and financially. We expect more help, support and guidance from you as we enter and struggle in another new and crucial world in life and it's the college life.

To you, our dear teachers, we can't forget you. We owe so much from you. We really thank you and so with our Alma Mater. Wherever we are, your name will not be erased in our minds, and we'll never forget you because you are part of our life.

Lastly, let us make it a point that in everything we do. we do our best. And above all, let us not forget God in all our endeavors so that He will guide us to prosperity, righteousness, honor and glory for our country.

Remember, we are the hope of our motherland.

To the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and his member, to our guest of honor, Mrs. Jovita Baladjay, to Mr. Gregorio Gaurana, our principal, beloved teachers and staff of Salaman Institute, beloved parents, dear classmates and friends, fellow graduates, and to all here who share the joys of graduation with us, Welcome and Good Afternoon.

The most significant event to a student's life to take place is no other than graduation. It is the culmination of one's hard work and struggle to attain knowledge and perhaps in the process... wisdom.And since it is the end of a certain process or stage in our education, it brings about a mixture of joy and pain. Joy for the attainment of one's goal and pain for the end of something that one has been used to.

High school life is the cradle of one's youth. For us, Salaman Institute, our Alma Mater, is the womb that nurtured our transition from childhood to addthood. It is the base from where we explore the possibilities that have been opened to us. It is the well from which we peer above into the light outside. And this womb has been good to us, caring for us when we seem to be weary in spirit, nurturing us in our moments of weakness, enlightening us in our ignorance, teaching us the values we need to face the strange world outside and we are grateful for this.

So, we thank you and I thank you. Thank you dear friends for the care and support. Thank you dear classmates for the camaraderie and belongingness. Thank you dear teachers for the knowledge and wisdom and all those lessons you have given us in which we will all be grateful for someday. Thank you dear parents for giving us this chance, for being good parents and for being always there when we need you. And most of all, thank you God for all your blessings.

Having said all that, I have also to say something about Salaman Institute. It is our Alma Mater after all. It is the first high school in Lebak. A part of life of our community. But what is Salaman Institute? It is for the principal, the teachers, the students, the parents, and the alumni. Why is that?For there is no Salaman Institute withoutthe skills and abilities of our principal. For there is no Salaman Institute without the teachers who dedicated and sacrificed their time and skills for the betterment of this institution. And there is no Salaman Institute without the students who try to make this school proud of them; and there is no Salaman Institute without the parents who supported it much from the moment it is founded until now; and there is no Salaman Institute wihout its alumni who tried to give back to the school what it owes much to it. Salaman Institute is all this people and Salaman Institute is people.Salaman Institute is Lebak. To Salaman Institute, I say "mabuhay" and we wish you the best in the years to come.

So, it is time to say goodbye. For Salaman Institute, safe as it may be, warm as it may be, and yet we have to leave this womb. We have to end our time here in Salaman Institute. We have to say goodbye to friends for four years, fellow travelers in our path and dear and kind mates, though we have shared a lot we have to part. We have to say goodbye to our mentors, teachers we both hated and loved but respect much; we cannot do so but otherwise. As Shakespeare said, "Parting is such a sweet sorrow." Sweet indeed is the success brought by this graduation but sorrowful also the parting that it brings. We have to say goodbye like a larva going out of its cocoon to become a butterfly.

And so my dear parents, honored guests, in behalf of the graduating class, my dear friends and classmates, I welcome you to witness this ceremony. Very soon we shall march in this stage, one by one, to receive our diploma. And with that piece of paper, we end the life we spend here for four years.We welcome you now to say goodbye to each other.

Farewell, I say dear Alma Mater, farewell classmates and friends and I wish all of you good luck.May the years to come be kind to all of us and may God in His wisdom bless us with success. Thank you very much. Welcome.

In our Junior year, the sections were Acacia under Mary Ronette Magtulis, Apitong by Mrs. Dolores Jumawan, and Almon by Mrs. Lucy Alejandro. We encountered the most difficult subjects we ever had in our high school days, but luckily we were able to surpass them all. Many activities were undergone, specially our first time exposure under the fatal heat of the sun and sometimes under the shimmering rain shower because of the CAT formation. The sermons or our Commandant were always every time we have training, but we took it as a challenge. Even though we did our best during the Tactical Inspection, sad to say we did not garner the first place, which was our rank for the past two years. We also attended our first social activity in this year, our J.S. Promenade.

Now, it is our last year in this institution, days are already falling from branches of the calendar and graduation is approaching. A mixed feeling of sadness and happiness can be traced from the faces of the Seniors. Happy because we already surpassed the four years of sacrifices yet sad for we are to leave our beloved Alma Mater. We all know that this is not yet the end of sacrifices, but just the beginning of another life to subsist. The division of classes as follows, Mahogany Handled by Mrs. Wenifreda A. Absalon, Guijo is given to Mrs. Canuta P. Murillo, Mrs Kalantas by Mrs. Leah Canillas.

We All desirous enough to received our diploma as a symbol that we already succeed our four years of staying in this institution. We wish to become as well-patterned products ans graduates of our Alma Mater. We hope to see ourselves in the future as successful men and women that can be the pride of our parents and our beloved institution as well.

As we sstart to bid goodbye to our friends, teachers and our Alma Mater, we the Class 2001 cannot forget to thank all those people behind our success. To teachers who nourished and patiently molded us to become what we are now. We can't reach the place where we are now, if not because of your help and guidance. To all of this we owe our gratitude to all of you.

To the underclassmen, strive for the best and continue what we have started.

To our dearest parents who sweated only for the realization of our dreams, expect more from us.
